I wouldn't call it remake, just Loom in VGA, 256 colors.

I am hopefully getting that game soon (on eBay) so I can play it and see what the fuss is about.

I'm slowly trying to cure my case of HypoClassicLucasArtsopathy.

I need to replay this game so, so badly. It's a shame that it was so short and easy, really, because what's there is fantastic.

Incredible game. Perhaps the closest to art that computer games have even been.

Yeah this is definately one of the most different games that ever came out. Locations, dreams, physics (floating\flying), respect for the character as you moved along the through the game, as well as the whole idea of the people you were a part of. Basically a band of Weavers that dress like druids. The game could have been longer, but it doesn't matter. I was so engulfed the first and 10th time I played this game, it doesn't matter if it's short.

Indeed, Loom was abstract.

Not abstract in the kind of horrid way that some abstract stories can be, which is just unconnected anarchy (sort of like the somewhat mishandled Hitch-Hiker's movie but I shan't go there). No, Loom was abstract in a special way. A way that made it all feel like a very cohesive dream. I kept thinking of the ending as the character finally waking up and seeing reality for what it truly is, rather than what he'd perceived in his fevered dreams.

It's a shame that games have forgotten to be brave like that. I can honestly say that I would play a game in 256 VGA if it had the ingeniousness that Loom had. Lots of wonderful memories there of turning things into things. Transmutation before Full Metal Alchemist and done decidedly better to boot. Plus, one of the biggest bonuses was that it was one of the only forms of media ever outside of books (as far as I can recall, correct me if I'm wrong) brave enough to try to render, to realize a city made of glass or crystal.

I've always been fascinated by crystalline archetecture but most of it seems quite ...eh. I distinctly remember Loom's being like a glassworks however, it had that 'blown' feel to it, the kind of shapes one would see a glass-blower weaving out of the aforementioned wonderfully unsteady mish-mash of particles. In fact, there's always one thing in every game that stands out in my memory and for Loom, that was it.
