Default Bob Bates interview/former Legend Entertainment

http://g-wie-gorilla.de/index.php?op...=111&Itemid=18

I would LOVE to see him do another adventure game; Eric the Unready, Arthur Quest for Excalibur, and Timequest, among others, were all terrific. There haven't been any adventure games subsequent to these that I have enjoyed more.

One can always hope.

This is a GREAT topic because I just bought ALL of the Legend games on eBay in their original boxes. I even scored the original Mission Critical and Shannarra in shrinkwrap. Excited to replay these.

ALL of the legend games were so great. I started playing Gateway last nite!

what a coincidence. reading interview now...

Eriq,

That was money well spent on eBay!

Bob Bates also did a game called Quandaries, a "simulation" of a career in the United States government--designed to teach professional ethics to federal agents. That one I haven't played yet. Do a search for it and you will find that it is available as a free download on the internet.

Did you get Superhero League of Hoboken, too? That was kind of an RPG AND adventure, but to me it seemed more like an adventure game than anything else. Fun, fun!

That's the only one I haven't acquired the actual full original box for. It's quite hard to come by. Although look...

pondering whether to get that.. wonder how much shipping to North America is... I don't understand how pounds and international currency work.

There is a question about the legality of things, but unless I am mistaken, you can download that game from the underdogs. They claim it is abandonware. I love that game. I still have my manual but the discs are missing. I wonder where they went.

Eriq,

It looks like it would be about 16 American dollars for letter post airmail for the eBay game in Germany; there's a surface-mail option that would be a few dollars less. Expensive, but as you say, this game is getting harder and harder to come by, particularly boxed.

I just looked on Amazon and a Marketplace seller wants $98 plus shipping for it.

I got my copy (boxed) on eBay about a year ago. I can't remember now what I paid for it, but it wasn't anywhere close to $98.

I'll keep a lookout on eBay, too, and let you know if I see another one pop up.

Captain Hero, you need to look around for those discs.

It's so frustrating. I don't remember which games I own and which ones I've sold over the years. I thought I had the whole box for Time Quest as well but I guess I don't. I can't seem to find it. Legend made a good number of memorable adventures.

I just bought all the Spellcasting, eric, Mission Critical, Death Gate, Shannara, Gateway 1 & 2, and a few others.

Xanth is another one I need to get.

Great interview! I hope Bob've been serious about having plans for another adventure game. Simply one of the most talented designers out there.

Odd. It's the second time this week I see this interview linked to (though I can't remember on which site was the first), but... it's about one year old, isn't it? (In particular, the game he is talking about, Panzer Elite Action, has been released since.)

Not that I complain, mind you; it's an interesting read.

I didn't realize the review wasn't recent. Let's hope he's been pondering how to get financial backing for a new adventure game. I sure wish Steve Meretzky and some of the other former Infocom employees were thinking about that too!
