Looking for a game like Hero's Quest

The Hero's Quest series are by far my favorite and I'm looking for a new game which brings in the adventure and character development qualities of Hero's Quest. Any ideas? Ideally the game would easily run on Win XP and be released in the past few years.

Good luck with that, I've been looking for a QfG "substitute" for years, and the closest things I've found are The Fifth Disciple and Arcatera. Fifth Disciple is decent, though far from QfG's quality, and Arcatera isn't worth your time.

I've aquired Gooka recently and will be trying it out soon, haven't heard a lot of positive things about it though.

you /may/ like "neverend." that is, if you can forgive it for it's multiple faults. it's not a bad game - and, this is sort of my impression of it from playing for three or so hours, but...you /have/ to get past the fact that it seems like it was put together in a hurry.

but, in terms of presentation [there's two dee screens for interacting with people and objects] is pretty much reminiscent of the sierra games. however, it swaps to a top-down [!] view when you're wondering around on the map. your mileage may significantly vary.
