If my preview made you think of Post Mortem, I have to say I failed. Besides the major difference (first-person vs. third-person), Post Mortem never went for any sort of cinematic feel.

naa, you did'nt fail...it was very well written and did'nt get a vibe from any game. your interview made it sound as if it was an orgional game, which it is!

Stinger: You mentioned 24 in your preview. I guess you're referring to the split screen and story unfolding through multiple perspectives. Do these split screen things only happen when something significant is happening (Like the example you gave about the interviewing cop) or do they also focus on insignificant stuff. The split screen in 24 is awesome because of how it's utilized and if this game uses it like that it should be pretty cool.

No, from what I saw the split screen was used in exactly the same manner as 24. In fact, it was me who said "Wow, that's just like what 24 does" and the demonstrator informed me that it was a heavy influence.

Ah, that's good to know. It's a pretty cool preview.

Ok, I did say it rather poorly.
Let me rephrase that: Mainly it was the outdoor graphics and the blood that reminded me of Post Mortem and not so much your preview. As for first-person vs. third-person, it's not so much visible in those screens to have an impact.
And besides, it's not such a bad thing if an AG resembles PM, because besides its obvious flaws, PM did have some good things to it, like the story, the cut scenes, the rituals and the utter feeling of disgust with all the blood in that one room in the game. And when I was watching the trailer and the screens, it was distinctively the good things from PM that seemed to spring to mind, which I would see more as a compliment to the developers more than anything else.
And don't worry about your preview. It was great and the whole Post Mortem feeling came, as I said earlier, more from the screens and the trailer.

I know that at least one prominent adventure site is designating Fahrenheit as an “action-adventure,” and while there’s at least more validity to that here than there is with Dreamfall, I still think it’s a very sad mischaracterization.
Mmm hmmm....

In its summary of Fahrenheit, Gamespot, which typically calls many action-adventure and survival horror games "adventures" (Silent Hill, etc.), refers to the game as an "action adventure" as well. Not only that, but if you look at the top of the summary window where the game's vital statistics are listed, it says "Genre: Action."

Well, they did nominate the game as one of the best adventures of the show, so I think they have wires crossed somewhere. I'm usually a huge defender of GameSpot, but it's fairly silly considering they have GTA and Silent Hill games in this category to have Fahrenheit in Action. I'm confident they'll get that fixed soon.

I see where you're coming from, but you really must admit that's pretty shaky and circumstantial. GameSpot categorized the game before it was demoed in person, so it should be fairly safe to assume that their "Action" placement is due to some assumptions they made about the game back when less was known. As Evan said, they put the game in their "Best Adventures of E3" feature, and the winning game in that feature was Dreamfall. The other games they listed are LSL, Missing (aka In Memorium), and Silent Hill 4. All of those games except SH4 are being covered by AG. (I may as well mention I've been playing SH3 at Trep's insistence and I have to say that if you turn down the action setting all the way and turn up the puzzles setting all the way it really plays like an adventure game with super-basic combat. I don't expect adventure-only gamers to play it but I think "adventure" is fair placement on a site like Gamespot. It's not really an action-adventure.)

Basically, the action is very similar BS3, but hopefully implemented more smoothly. If you considered that an action/adventure then I guess there's no way to convince you. In an action situation, you have to hit a button (and the game tells you which button to press like in BS3) at the right time, then your character does the action automatically; it's not dynamic. That's basically it. From what we've seen, those action sequences are incidental rather than anywhere close to the bulk of the gameplay. By the way, in terms of puzzles and gameplay concept and so forth it seems kind of reminiscent of Shadow of Destiny.

Just some clarification on those button presses: they were actually interesting because each instance offered a choice, with actual repercussions. It's not just "press button A or cutscene X will restart until you do it right". It's more like "cutscene X is running and you have to make a decision somewhere along the way, and what you decide affects what comes after the cutscene". Or something. It seemed to be implemented in a somewhat better way.

I just noticed, the Sierra logo has appeared on Fahrenheits webpage next to the VU one. Is that new? Is it being released through sierra now?

Right! That's pretty much how I gleaned Fahrenheit to be, myself. As far as narrative-to-gameplay mechanics, it looks to be closer to Shadow of Destiny/Memories - a lot of character interaction and exploration. Also worth noting is that it departs from the traditional inventory based puzzling - usually whatever items you pick up are used immediately, not stashed away in your pockets.

Remixadude, I'm glad you're doing SH3, btw! I might just go back and replay it in 'adventure mode' (Beginner combat level, Hard puzzle level); after playing through the first time, I unlocked the 'Heather Beam' (lightsaber) and the Uzi (w/ unlimited ammo, found at the game's beginning). There's also the code unlocked for Heather's other outfits ( ). Happy creeping!

Yes. But that doesn't really mean anything. VU and Sierra are exactly the same company now. There's not even such a thing as seperate divisions. It's just a brand. That said, it is the right brand for Fahrenheit.

The review was a great read and has gotten me absolutely pumped for Fahrenheit... Because of my crappy computer complications led for me being unable to look at the video unfortunately ...

Oh well, I'll find a way to look at some sort of footage either way...
