Default Labyrinth of Time review

Good review, Claire! I'm playing this game now, and while I haven't gotten very far into the game, you seem to have had less trouble with the mazes than I am having. Also, the interface makes it easy to lose your sense of direction, as you turn, the scene doesn't fade, you are abruptly shown the next wall you face, and you're not really sure if you turned once or twice (90 or 180º)

Near the beginning, on the balcony where you can first see the castle in the clouds, I had a really hard time getting back - I couldn't see from where I entered, how to return. This kind of interface adds another layer of difficulty to navigating the environment. Even the map didn't help me here.

I'm going to give the game another go, but if I continue to have the same difficulties, or can't find an easier way to navigate, I may deep-six this one. Too bad, really, if I have to do that - I kinda liked the premise.

Lynsie

Thanks Lyn! Stick with Labyrinth, and I promise that navigating the game will get a lot easier It is very disorientating at first, but I found it really helpful to study the map and work out how many turns it would take to get me back to where I wanted to go. You'll get used to the interface in no time

Well, what can I say, excellent review. I can only stress I'm a complete fan of the game, but that is a very neutral point of view you sketched out, and I find myself agreeing with everything. 'course my rating is different (my personal rating), and I must admit I'd give the game, objectively, a one-start rather than a two-star... but then, I was still writing mine and maybe in the end I would have just agreed to that on objective levels. With the little obsessive fineprint screaming "ILOVETHISGAMEILOVETHISGAMEILOVETHISGAMESPLURT!!!" ...

Well, I can still write the most thourough walkthrough for it ever made... you can't take that from me lol

Seriously, that is one excellent review.

One thing, though: Regarding the mazes, you did notice Wyrmkeep's "breadcrumb" option, I take it? That wasn't in the original game so I think your criticism (as you phrased it) of the repetitiveness of mazes is just for that, but the new version lets you skip through (within reason/limits), retracing your path... so I think it's a lot less negative than it used to be. It doesn't quite nil it, of course, but I thought I'd point it out.

(Coincidentially, I really wish Wyrmkeep had kept the original savegame screen design, the style break is a horrendous atrocity to the eye! )
