I can't believe people are so enjoying badmouthing EFMI *just* after we had a thread about it, not to mention many in the past, which should have cleared at least some of its "flaws" a bit. Oh, well, I guess it's Myst syndrome ("It's bad because I say so!")
I'll just say a thing or two about Monkey Kombat (because only stepurhan made some constructive criticism here ). Like Lacey, I disliked it strongly because I found it boring, tedious, not difficult.Spoiler: If I may address a couple of Step's points specifically: Quote:

While I certainly can't disagree with the "not writing stuff down" argument, I find it nothing short of astounding that people can hate MK passionately and then go and play another maze-filled Sierra game, which requires infinitely more patience and a far more complex diagram
.If I'd been asked for comments on MK I would only ever have said that it was tedious and dull, not that it was actually that difficult. Because as soon as you do grab a piece of paper it becomes like insult sword fighting with a slight bit of memory work (and no worse, IMO, than the "If this is three, what's this?" puzzle in MI2). |

Also, if we choose a different mathematical model, with twenty moves (A->B, A->C, etc.) rather than five (A,B, etc.), and appropriately updated what-beats-what rules, the claim that a move you know you have to make may be unavailable to you, is no longer true. So, yes, I can see why one could call it overcomplicated. ![]() Also: once again, I must agree with RL's post above. Quote:

Personally I think Monkey island two was the worst, andthat this one, though it caught me off guard withthe whole 3D thing (which I may state wasnt a good idea) I enjoyed, completedit at least 5 times, but I just gave up on knuttin atoll last time I played as it glitched.

Holy thread necromancy, batman!
While we're at it though, I'll just say that I found Escape to be a decent enough adventure up until the final third of the game.

However, I do not think that it was the worst part of the game. The best part, if anything. At least during the MK sessions, you didn't have to endure poorly done modern-tech jokes and spoofs.
