Default Hype-O-Meter 2/22/03

The Hype-O-Meter has again been updated. Let me reiterate that this list represents a ranked list of the upcoming adventures that we are the most excited about, based on a combination of actual news, forum chatter, and good old fashioned women's intuition. This week's update:

1. Sam & Max 2 (unchanged) - The PR blitz could literally begin any day...we can't wait.

2. Syberia 2 (unchanged) - A very close race for the top, as some who have played preview copies are calling it one of the greatest adventures ever.

3. Dreamfall (unchanged) - I've gotta say, it's a pretty cool name. And ballsy of them to not try to sell it with the name recognition of TLJ. Though don't be surprised if ": The Sequel to The Longest Journey" gets tagged on there in the US.

4. The Moment of Silence (unchanged) - We will be publishing an exclusive interview with the director of this game next week, and then hopefully you'll all start to understand why we're so excited about this.

5. Lost Paradise (new) - Fan consensus, as well as the name of Benoit Sokal, allows Lost Paradise to break into the top five in its first journey to the Hype-O-Meter.

6. Project Jane-J (down 1) - We've been assured that PR is intentionally subdued, with the intention to shove the game down our throats when the time is right. Until that point, our enthusiasm remains a bit light (at least until we get an official name).

7. Fahrenheit (unchanged) - Our preview hopefully made everyone a little bit more excited. We'll see how fast it climbs the charts as more info is released.

8. Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude (down 2) - We're losing faith fast. With no Al Lowe, this may just be a charmless excuse for sewer humor and softporn. Still, it's Larry, and that alone will likely keep it on the top ten.

9. The Westerner (up 1) - We've been assured by a trustworthy source overseas who is reviewing the game that it is quite good.

10. Runaway 2 (down 1) - Our attempts to contact Pendulo have been fruitless...likely because no one there seems to speak English. Enter Babelfish!

Comments are welcome...and necessary, in order for this to work right.

I have no clue what The Moment of Silence is doing on Lost Paradise's place.

Other than that H-o-M's pretty accurate; especially it's triple triple-A top3.

Might I add that "overseas" means "Europe".

Or America, depending on your perspective

So, Legacy: Dark Shadows disappeard from the list... I have to admit that they have been too lazy in releasing stuff about this game, so I'm not very wondered... Still looking forward to play it though!

Whats the deal with the hype-o-meter changing every couple of seconds. I don't know why LSL8 is ahead of Project Jane-J.

Hmmm. I'd like you to tell me everything you know about Project Jane-J that doesn't come from the one-year-old E3 interview as fast as you can.

Ready? Go!

...

...

...

That is why LSL8 is ahead of Jane-J. I have no idea what's going on, but ten months without a single sliver of information does not make me excited...or even confident, for that matter.

And btw...the Hype-O-Meter doesn't change every couple of seconds. It changes once every two weeks.

What I meant was that we know alot of details about Leisure Suit Larry and alot of people don't seem to be very optimistic about it, but Project Jane-J is made by Jane Jensen and she has never made a bad game. (In my opinion. ) I understand what you mean though. I guess it's not the "What's-shaping-up-to-be-the-better-game-o-meter"

Nah, I wasn't talking about the official changes, I'm talking about the small changes that were made to the hype-o-meter throughout the week. (For example adding Beneath a Steel Sky, having the publisher for Project Jane-J being listed as Sierra and then changed to The Adventure Company, as well as adding the new game to the list without taking Sam & Max: Freelance Police off. ) Calm down... It's not like I was making a personal attack. There's no need to roll your eyes.

I'm nitpicking. Just forget it.

Take my trustworthy word that people shouldn't be too thrilled about this game. Besides, for many people, it's already out, so it's not really about hype, rather about patience, for those who won't believe me and will still wait for it go be released.

I wouldn't be surprised to see BASS 2 take the top spot before long, considering all the attention it's getting already. Just imagine what it's going to be like once they start releasing screenshots and all the other various media.

The Project Jane-J publisher mistake was my fault, I sincerely apologize. I must have had my adventure game eras mixed up or something. The other changes are simply incidental. BASS was just announced and is highly anticipated, so it got added immediately. SM2 will be kept at #1 for a short time for posterity.

Uh oh. That screwup slightly lessens your chances of getting into the 'George Stobbart Gives Me A Boner And I Want To Grope The Monitor' group.

Just for the record, I disagree with some of these positions. My anticipation for Syberia 2 went radically down after the demo, which promised more of the same (although we have pretty much known that for a long time). My hype-o-meter would see Dreamfall at second. Especially with all of the little tidbits Ragnar has been dropping lately. Also, who told you it was one of the greatest adventure games of all times?
But keep up the good work. It's nice to have a list like these, if not just to have something to look forward to.

I'm sure Stinger will keep these points in mind when he's working out the next Hype-O-Meter.

Then I need to add that my expectations after playing the Syberia 2 demo are equally high as before.

My personal Hype-O-Meter:

1. Syberia 2. I really long for this game.
2. Dreamfall. I have high hopes that it gets *better* than TLJ
3. BaSS 2. A really good game gets a sequel.
4. Moment of Silence. Might be the big rookie of the adventures.
5. Project Jane-J. Jane has always made good games. Is she still capable of it?
